Abstract
Discontinuous shale-bodies are one of the commonest forms of heterogeneity in productive formations, and may have a significant effect on the response of a field to waterflooding or other oil-recovery operations. The problem of describing these shale-bodies in a multiphase simulation model may be addressed by applying stochastic modelling and pseudofunction technology. The description of shale-body effects at the coarse-grid scale is affected by dynamicity and representative elementary volume considerations.
