This paper presents an investigation of pore pressure interpretation, fracture gradient analysis, and the impact of uncertainties on drilling costs and capital allocation to a well in West Cameron Block 249 in the Gulf of Mexico. Geomechanical uncertainties lead to a range of cost estimates. There is currently no deterministic way of knowing the appropriate empiricism to apply in the analysis of geomechanical conditions that control well designs and cost estimates.
