Abstract

Stress field near a hydraulic fracture will be altered during the process of propagation. These stress changes and induced deformation can change the porosity and aperture of the natural fractures, which eventually will change the permeability so that the SRV will be enhanced. Plastic deformation may also be developed due to a sharp contrast of the principal stress changes near the fracture tip. This plastic deformation will change the geometry of a hydraulic fracture and subsequently the effect of the stimulation processes.
