The behavior of a propeller that operates in a uniform flow greatly inclined has been studied, in way to reach the optimization of design thing really important in case of planning craft where the shaft inclination is often considerable.
Before, the influence of inclined flow on the geometric attach angle has been investigated with the following variation of the profile lift coefficient, therefore, individuating the most important parameters in propeller design and their influence on its general characteristics.
Then, calculation method has been introduced to take into account of lift and drag variations along radius and circumference. This method permits, the calculation of thrust, and torque for every position to thrust resultant and the test to the most dangerous cavitation conditions.
In the end has been discussed the design of a propeller for a fast military planing hull in the light of the foregoing.
