An integrated propulsor has a strong interaction with the flow over the stem and prevents that flow from separating as it would in the absence of the propulsor. Traditional propulsor design procedures based upon interaction coefficients are inadequate for this type of application. A logical design process has been developed which accounts for the strong influence of an integrated propulsor on the afterbody flow. Since propellers are designed to operate in the circumferential mean inflow at the propeller plane, all flow field computations are currently done using axisymmetric viscous flow solvers. This methodology can be applied to both axisymmetric and three-dimensional afterbodies. A ducted preswirl integrated propuls01· will be used as an example to demonstrate the design procedure.
