This paper discusses a Torsional Vibration Consortium (TVC) and software it developed for computing the torsional vibratory response of drive trains. The TVC consisted of a group of companies, the US Navy and Coast Guard, and a center at Carnegie Mellon University whose goal was to improve methods for predicting the vibratory response of drive trains by: 1) developing a shared database of component models, 2) utilizing a common analytical computer program for computing torsional response, 3) encouraging standardization of component models and calculation methods, 4) evaluating the accuracy of analytical methods through the comparison of predictions with experimental measurements, and 5) developing improved component models and analytical methods.
