This paper presents the results of measurements of unsteady propeller shaft forces of a contra-rotating propeller (CRP) operating behind a ship in both model and full scales. Further, unsteady propeller shaft forces were calculated by a lifting surface theory and compared with the results of the measurements. It was found that the calculated propeller shaft forces were in good agreement with the experiments. Further, propeller shaft forces of the CRP measured in full scale coincided well with those predicted from the model experiments.
