Investigations aimed at possible improvements to the existing propulsion system of an amphibian are given. Included are waterjets, propellers, ducted propellers, propellers in tunnels, contra-rotating propellers, ring propellers, vertical axis propellers, controllable pitch propellers and track propulsion.

The relative merits of the alternative propulsors are compared with the existing and improved waterjets.

Also considered are perturbations in vessels displacement and the application of a variable thrust direction nozzle/which has been designed to enhance the capabilities of these vehicle types.
