Version 1 of the Regional Ice Prediction System was implemented this past year at Environment Canada. Data assimilation techniques integrate a variety of observations into one automated product, using Canadian Ice Service charts and lake ice analyses, and ice concentration retrieved from SSM/I and AMSR satellite data. This system shows an improvement over the current Canadian Meteorological Centre (CMC) operational sea ice analysis, and development is underway on future versions.
