Keeping floating structures stationary in moving ice fields is among the major concerns for oil companies considering exploration and production in artic regions. Semi-empirical models have been developed to predict the effectiveness of ice management. By considering an example of an FPSO, it is shown that effective use of ice management can drastically reduce the ice induced mooring loads.
