Marine vehicles intended for ultra-high-speed applications can beneficially use the air for drag reduction and lift augmentation. New types of air-assisted marine craft include air-lubricated boats, aerodynamically supported multi-hulls, and ram craft with jet-induced lift. This paper reviews the current state of these technologies, full-scale specifications of some existing boats, experimental data, relevant mathematical theories, and future research directions.
