Procedures are described for estimating the useful working area and the maximum run length in rectangular basins with segmented wave generators installed on one or two sides. These are based on evanescent wave zones, wave diffraction boundaries and wavelength limits due to segment width. Directional wave spectrum distortions due to basin limitations are also discussed and some wave generation techniques based on the use of sidewall reflection are reviewed.
