Presented herein are the results of an exploratory study on the application of chaos theory to continuous-mode ice breaking by a towed model-scale icebreaker hull. The study shows that continuous-mode ice breaking by a towed hull comprises a chaotic-dynamic system of comparatively low dimension. The implications of this result are discussed.
