Results from towing-tank experiments of free-surface wave-induced separation are documented. Freesurface elevations and surface pressures are measured for a surface-piercing NACA0024 hydrofoil progressing into a calm free surface at the Iowa Institute of Hydraulic Research (IIHR) towing tank. The simplified geometry results in naturally occurring wave-induced separation near the free surface (at sufficient forward speed), making an ideal test geometry by isolating wave-induced effects. A physical understanding and identification of important flow features of wave-induced separation is completed from measurements at three forward speeds Fr=(0.19,0.37,0.55).
