This project was begun, quite unintentionally, while log analysis work was in process on a major gas field in south Louisiana. A thick sand had been calculated to contain mostly gas and a number of drill-stem tests were run to prove gas reserves. They flowed not gas, but water, and a large part of the field's probable gas reserves vanished. What went wrong with the log calculations?
