Abstract:

In the discontinuous models as DDA and NMM, the earthquake wave is propagating from the base block to the upper blocks by the friction between blocks in theoretical. The experiments of response on the artificial structure models has been applied by prescribed displacement on the actuator of excitation apparatus. The authors report some factors in earthquake motions affects in modeling described above for the discontinuous models by using 4-node iso-parametric NMM (Sasaki & Ohnishi, 2001) and 3D-DDA (Shi, 2001).

1 Introduction

The characteristics of structures on resonance in the earthquake response analysis is depends on the frequency of the input wave motions and the own natural period of the structures. The motion of the earthquake is input by the accelerations or the prescribed displacements on time histories in general. The earthquake motion is recorded by seismographs on accelerations on site in usual. The response of the foundation model is dependent on the stratum of elastic modulus and the boundary condition of analytical regions. The viscous dampers models are introduced around the boundaries in the analytical regions in some times. In this case, the response of earthquake motion of foundation model is dependent on its boundary condition and the boundaries are not clear and ambiguous in physically. The other hand, the experiments of response on the artificial structure models has been applied by prescribed displacement on the actuator of excitation apparatus. In this case, the boundary condition is clear and in depends. In the discontinuous models as DDA and NMM, the earthquake wave is propagating from the base block to the upper blocks by the friction between blocks in theoretical. And the superfluous force is disappearing by the slip motions between blocks. In this time, the precision of fiction forces depending penalty should be calculating on the strength of yield surface (Hashimoto et al., 2016). The authors report some factors in earthquake motions affects in modeling described above for the discontinuous models by using 4-node iso-parametric NMM (Sasaki & Ohnishi, 2001) and 3D-DDA (Shi, 2001).
