Abstract

During the construction of the A4 Expressway, section Shtip - Radovish, a detailed mapping of the open profiles of the excavated cuts was performed for additional stability analysis. With further analysis, the slope inclination was changed. During the engineering geological mapping, characteristic phenomena and shapes that are the result of the suffosion process were registered. In this paper, two examples for construction of cuts in similar geological environments, consisting of gravels and sands, subject to suffosion, are presented. Also, it is shown one possible way of remediation of the openings formed as a result of suffosion.
