When designing road slopes, the type and scope of the performed geotechnical investigations and tests are of great importance, in order to design an economically and technically sustained and practical solution. In this paper, an overview of changes made to the technical solutions for cuts in the construction phase, in relation to the designed ones, is done. The subject of these analyzes are the slopes of the cuts on the A4 Expressway, section Shtip - Radovish. The need to re-design the slopes is due to their instability, ascertained during the construction phase or immediately after their construction. The reason for this is the inadequate technical solutions, which are mainly due to the insufficient scope of field investigations and tests, that is, shallow trial pits and trenches, which in this case results in an unrealistic definition of the rock masses in terms of stability, disintegration, strength, thickness of layer, etc., thus giving a false representation of the environment in which the permanent slope should be performed. Ultimately, an inappropriate inclination is adopted for the assumed type of materials. For the analyzed road section under construction, an overview was made of the number and type of previous and additional (new) geotechnical investigations, the number of retained technical solutions from the detailed design and the number of newly designed technical solutions, as well as an overview of newly designed and implemented slope inclinations in rocks and soils, respectively.
