ABSTRACT

Finite-element calculations have been made to analyse the stability of large old mining rooms and the integrity of the salt barrier in the Bartensleben salt mine. In the context of the repository's closure concept several large old mining rooms were selected to be backfilled in advance with saltcrete in order to stabilise the repository mine and to improve the long-term integrity of the salt barrier. The recent state of stress and deformation around the rooms as well as dilatancy in the salt rock have been investigated taking into account the generation of heat during hydration of saltcrete.
