Theme 4 of the Congress attracted 49 contributions in the field of i) novel techniques, ii) rock characteristics, iii) monitoring, iv) data processing and interpretation and v) rock reinforcement. Among the strong trends reflected by the papers are the application of computer technology to many of the novel techniques for characterising and monitoring rock masses. Other trends are characterisation of excavation damage zone (EDZ) by seismic and hydraulic testing, application of fractals and fractal dimension, site characterisation by horizontal directional drilling (HDD), monitoring large rock masses by global positioning system (GPS) and the integration of structural analysis, geology, geotechnique and computer vision in tunneling, Individual contributions to the theme are reviewed and areas for discussion at the Congress are listed.
Pour le thème 4 du congrès 49 contributions ont etes presentes dans les domaines de:
techniques nouvelles,
caracterisation des roches,
auscultation,
evaluation et interpretation des mesures,
renforcement des roches.
Les directions fortes identifiable de part des contributions est I'application des technologies de traitement des donnes et des images par ordinateur pour les techniques nouvelles de caracterisation et auscultation des massifs rocheux. Autres direction se sont manifestees dans I'application des methodes geophysiques et hydrauliques pour la determination de la zone pertubee (EDZ) par I'excavation du tunnel, I'utilisation des fractales comme des dimensions fractales, I'exploration par des forages horizontales dirigees, I'auscultation des grands massifs rocheux par Ie système de stationnement globale (GPS) et l'integration des analyses structurales, de la geologie et de la geotechnique ainsi que la visualition par ordinateur dans la construction de tunnels. Les contributions individiuelles ont ete revuees et des points à discuter pendant Ie congrès sont presentees.
Zum Thema 4 des Kongresses wurden 49 Beitrage eingereicht, welche folgende Gebiete umfassen i) Neuartige Techniken ii) Felseigenschaften, iii) Feldmessungen, iv) Bearbeiten und Auswerten von Messungen, v) Felsverstarkungen. Als starker Trend konnte bei den neuartigen Techniken die Anwendung von elektronischer Daten- und Bildverarbeitung fuer die Beschreibung und die Beobachtung von Felsmassen festgestellt werden. Weitere Trends sind die Beschreibung der durch den Tunnelvortrieb beschadigten Zone mittels geophysikalischer und hydraulischer Untersuchungen, die Anwendungen von Fraktalen und fraktaler Dimensionen, Untergrunderkundung mit horizontal en Zielbohrungen (HDD), die Überwachungen grosser Felsmassen mit dem "Global en Positionierung System" (GPS) sowie die Integration von numerischen Bemessungsmethoden, geologischen und geotechnischen Aufnahmen und Messungen und Computer Animation im Untertagbau. Die einzelnen eingereichten Beitrage zum Thema wurden ausgewertet und zu diskutierende Fragen fur den Kongress aufgestellt.
A total of 49 papers, comprising 'more than 250 pages were accepted for this theme of the Congress. The theme entitled "In situ tests and measurements and monitoring" is very wide and certain overlap of the contributions with the other themes of the Congress is enviable. These overlaps, on the other hand, are acceptable as they counteract the potential compartmentalisation of the different activities in the field of rock mechanics. The Organising Committee assigned two Co-General Reporters to the sessions. They decided that both would review all the papers received, make the programme of oral presentations and discussions from the received contributions but split the written contribution and oral presentation of the general report. With O. Stephansson to cover the sub-themes 'Novel Technique and "Rock Characteristics", while W. Steiner would be responsible for "Monitoring", "Data Processing and Interpretation and Rock Reinforcement.
