In this paper, works made to repair a cut excavated in a formation of sandstone with interbedded claystone are described. During a period of heavy rains a large slide occurred in a cut located at the East Section of the Peripheral Highway of Màlaga (Spain). The cut had a height lightly larger than 50m previously to the large slide and reached more than 70 m after geometric correction. A geomechanics study has been made previously to define the solution of the problem. It consist in combination of the mostly frequent approaches for treatment of unstable rock masses: correction of geometry, rockbolts, cable meshes, shotcrete, wire meshes and dynamic barriers.
The main aim of this article is to describe the activities involved in repairing and stabilising a very high cutting located on the Màlaga Peripheral Highway in Spain.
This cutting lies at kilometre 5.360 on the eastern section of the aforementioned dual carriageway, very close to the western entrance to the Cerrado de Calder6n Tunnel (See Fig. 1).

A prolonged spell of heavy rainfall that lasted for several months, towards the end of 1995 and at the beginning of 1996, caused a major landslide near the end of January 1996, which completely obstructed both the eastbound and westbound.
A description is given below of the geological characteristics of the zone, the work involved in studying and analysing the problem and a definition of the topology and causes, of the instability. together with the "'corrective measures taken- and, how these were carried out.
The site known as Cerrado de Calderón, consists of material that forms part of the, Malàguide Formation, which is extremely varied in its geological composition and structurally complex; this formation crops out in the eastern section of the Màlaga Peripheral Highway.
