This paper studies the impact of impurities in CO2 rich fluids using an Integrated Asset Model (IAM) which comprises a specialised thermodynamic model coupled with a sophisticated thermo-hydraulic model using Wood proprietary software Virtuoso. Sensitivity studies of depressurisation with various CO2 rich fluid compositions was carried out using the IAM offline simulator to identify the impact of the impurities on system performance. The simulation results presented in this paper will provide valuable inputs for risk analyses and mitigation and demonstrate how the IAM developed helps operation optimisation during depressurisation. This paper highlighted that the main risks encountered during CO2 pipeline depressurisation include low temperature and corrosion risks, challenges associated with multiphase flow, and potential risk of solids formation.
