First proposed by Hans Treu and Peter Dove of Aker Marine contractors (now part of TechnipFMC) an in-line tensioner was first deployed by SBM for Shell on the Stones FPSO project. Flintstone has developed a suction anchor mounted tensioner and a pull through connector for the hull connection and more recently developed our own in line tensioner. The idea behind these developments has been to achieve a substantial reduction in deck weight, elimination of the space required and not least significant cost reduction. The focus has also been on reducing the overall installation time by simplifying the process.
Case studies will be shown for both deep and shallow water where combinations of different types of tensioner and the pull in connector and uni-joints are being used to provide the anticipated savings in weight, space and installation time.
