There are many oil and gas production prospects in water depths greater than 3,000 feet that can only be considered feasible if a cost-effective floating production system is available. The semisubmersible configuration provides a solution for such fields and brings a proven operating record. This paper presents a semisubmersible-based system that is tailored for production of 30,000 – 70,000 BOPD fields. The centerpiece of the system is the GVA 3500GOM hull configuration. The many features of this hull are discussed herein. This paper will also demonstrate the ability of the semisubmersible to support steel catenary production and export risers in a wide range of water depths.
