Results of a design comparison study are presented for a production platform in 7000 ft. water depth based on ABB’s extended TLP (ETLPTM) concept. The platform has a full production and workover capability, with a facilities weight of 6500 short tons, and is designed for GOM operations. Two tendon concepts were evaluated and compared: stepped OD steel, and a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) tendon design. Sizing studies and frequency domain global analyses were performed for both tendon concepts. Comparative displacement and tendon data are presented as a function of heave natural frequency. The effects of the design natural frequency in heave on response spectra in ultra deepwater are demonstrated.
