The development of a Machine Learning-based image recognition tool for analysis of visual data is presented in this paper. Its application in detecting coating failures and corrosion is highlighted; the same methodology can be applied to detect other defects such as fractures and structural deformations in visual inspections. The tool provides a consistent assessment of coating conditions and enables a safer, more efficient, and more accurate inspection system to be built that consists of Remote Inspection Technologies for data collection and image recognition for data analysis.
