In the previous chapters, we discussed single and multiprobe tool configurations, geology, fluid flow in porous media, analytical pressure solutions for the various wireline formation testing (WFT) tool configurations, fluid gradient estimation, pretests, and fluid contacts. One important application of WFT is near-wellbore-region formation characterization by way of conducting controlled local production, buildup (BU), and interference tests in openhole wells and, in some cases, in casedhole wells.

WFT drawdown (DD) and BU tests usually exhibit two types of flow regimes: spherically radial and cylindrically radial. We call them spherical and radial flow regimes. DD and BU tests may also exhibit other flow regimes, such as a fracture and/or formation linear flow regime (Zeybek et al. 2002).
