Analyzing the feasibility of installing a waterflood requires a comprehensive vision. Significant segments of interest are reservoir description and analysis, well locations in the context of fluid flow, potential well mechanical issues, a general layout of project development, and the economics describing project viability. These studies require input and analysis from a number of different disciplines, each of which is equally important.

The first chapter concerns the application of both quantitative and qualitative aspects of reservoir architecture. Eventually, these studies are integrated with dynamic data (pressure/volume/temperature, pressure, and production histories) to predict recovery efficiencies as well as optimize reservoir performance. The management of such an enterprise requires a foundation in all of these aspects to understand how a particular facet fits into the picture.
