During actual waterflood operations, three reservoir engineering activities are of critical importance: (a) gathering surveillance data; (b) evaluating, analyzing, and interpreting those data; and (c) then, as necessary, making appropriate changes to field operations. This chapter covers the techniques historically used to evaluate whether ongoing waterflood operations are proceeding as expected at individual injection and production wells, as well as at the pattern or full-field levels.1 Also, given the insights gained concerning the water-oil displacement efficiency at these various scales, the topic of how waterflooding operations could be modified to improve performance is discussed.2
