Several techniques that provide additional valuable data on reservoir performance are available. They are bundled under special techniques only because of infrequent usage compared to other methods discussed previously. These techniques assist in improving the quality of reservoir information available to make critical decisions relating to reservoir development. They also help in making assessments for infill drilling, bypassed oil, compartmentalization, and production allocation. The techniques discussed in this chapter are for surveillance using tracers, geochemical methods, and 4D seismic. In addition, surveillance considerations for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods are discussed. These methods have undergone rejuvenation and are enjoying broader usage and acceptance in the past decade.
