In the previous chapter, we considered the measurement principles of sensors as well as instrument reliability and errors. In this chapter, we will discuss standard tools used for a variety of measurements. The intent is for the readers to familiarize themselves with tools and the environmental constraints critical to peak performance. The measurements are classified by their utility, the optimal timing for their use during the life of an oil field, and the variants in the equipment to accommodate specific needs (Louis et al. 2000). Running procedures and best practices are also discussed. Although many companies offer variants to a given tool or technology, we will be discussing only one tool in a given category.
