This chapter begins with a discussion on fundamental physics involved in proppant transport. Specifically, various forces involved in single and multiparticle settling and other modes of transport are briefly discussed. The next section focuses on the effects of various operational and design parameters on proppant transport in hydraulic fractures (HFs). This discussion is primarily based on established knowledge and important results, trends, correlations, and rules of thumb sourced and compiled from notable experimental, theoretical, computational-modeling, and field studies. The next section highlights current understanding of proppant transport in a complex fracture network. The chapter concludes with a brief description of various factors governing the proppant flowback from HFs.
