Various reservoir flow conditions may be encountered during oil and gas production operations. Different types of reservoir geologic factors and well completion configurations might result in differing flow patterns in the reservoir, which in turn influence a well’s production behavior. Some knowledge of the reservoir geology and well completion configuration is required when interpreting the production performance of a well.

For instance, flow through a well completion is affected by the following factors:

In this chapter, the various reservoir and well flow relationships (models) are presented for conventional-reservoir and -well completions. These include well and reservoir models for unfractured vertical wells, vertical wells stimulated by fracturing and unfractured horizontal wells. Chapter 5 presents a more detailed discussion of the well completion techniques and well performance models applicable for unconventional-reservoir completions, often commonly completed with multiply fractured horizontal wellbores.
