Abstract

Discovery of the multilayer deposits of high quality oil (Retchizk and Ostashkovitch) in 1964 in the southwestern part of the Byelorussian SSR, i.e. within the Prepyatsky graben-type depression, signifies the discovery of a new oil and gas bearing region in the USSR.

These oil fields are confined to the local salt dome structures on a prominence of crystalline basement, which complicates internal structure of the depression.

Oil deposits are connected with fractured calcareous Sediments of Upper Devonian (horizons petin-semiluk, and zadoneletz), which occur at a depth of 2700-2000 m.

Rate of production of the wells is up to 80-100 t/d while 5 mm choke and gas factor 30-40 m3/ton. Oil is of 0.84-0.89 gravity with content of sulphur 0*5%, paraffin to 8%. 69 promising local structures are known within the Prepyatsky depression.

The discovery in industrial quantities of high quality oil in 1964-1965, within the territory of Byelorussian SSR, signifies the appearance in the USSR of a new oil and gas bearing province and the base for the development of oil industry in the Byelorussia.

The fields of recoverable oil were discovered in the south-western part of the republic in the deep depression of crystalline basement filled with thick sedimentary rocks. It is the Prepyatsky depression.

The Prepyatsky depression is on the western side of the Russian Platform and structurally represents the by V. A. AVVAKUMOV, P. V. ANCUPOV Byelorussian Geological Department and K. I. GNEDIN, G. H.
