Abstract Résumé

The Integrated Unit of Yokkaichi Refinery of Showa Yokkaichi Sekiyu Co., Ltd., Japan consists of a crude distiller having a capacity of 105,000 bsd, hydrotreaters, platformer, hydrodesulphurizers and waste heat boilers.

The unit was designed on the basis of the techniques and knowhow of B.T.P.M. and was constructed at a cost of approx. 3,500 MM yen.

The paper describes the features of process engineering and mechanical designs of the Unit, and reviews some of the problems in the actual operations.

INTRODUCTION

The basic policy of the project for expanding the capacity of Yokkaichi Refinery, which is held responsible for providing feedstock to Yokkaichi Petrochemical Complex, was established in 1962 according to the master plan.

The project covered construction of new integrated unit with which capacity the Refinery was to be extended to 180,000 bsd from 75,000 bsd.

The following are the summary thereof:

  • Feedstock (naphtha) to petrochemical plants and feedstock to luboil plant under plan shall be supplied from the existing crude distillation unit.

  • The integrated unit shall have the throughput level of 105,000 bsd and should be integrated with platformer and hydrodesulphurizers.

  • The integrated unit should also have waste heat boilers, and a part of the steam produced therefrom shall be used for power generation.

  • Long residue from the integrated unit shall be fed into the existing feed preparation unit and made into feed stock to fluid catalytic cracking unit and bitumen units.

  • Gas treating units and sulphur recovery unit shall be newly built. by S. BEPPU and A. KOYAMA, Showa Yokkaichi Sekiyu Company Limited, Japan

  • Singly buoy mooring system for the reception of

  • Component blending and product shipping crude oils shall be newly built. facilities shall be modernized.

The following describe the features of the design and discuss the problems of the integrated unit which is the core of the extension project.

SUMMARY OF INTEGRATED UNIT

In designing this unit, the design knowhows which were developed by Royal Dutch Shell Group and methods called for royalty were adopted.

This unit was basically designed by B.I.P.M. in Holland and the detailed engineering work was completed by
