Water management accounts for a significant portion of the logistics associated with unconventional oil and gas development. The process of identifying sources, determining optimal transportation modes and selecting treatment technologies that support water management objectives is influenced by project economics, regulations, corporate objectives and stakeholder interests. Demonstrating the basis for water management decisions with respect to the social, environmental and economic aspects is critical in gaining stakeholder support. Utilizing a structured multi-criteria analysis decision support tool for this process ensures that the various objectives are adequately identified and addressed and that social responsibility objectives are considered.
