Abstract

JAPEX Research Center have been conducted technology developments related to well logging and reservoir characterization. In the memorial year of 80 years since the first well log in JAPAN, some development stories of following technologies are presented.

  • High Temperature Well Logging

  • Permeable Fracture Evaluation by Stoneley Wave

  • Directional Induction Method

  • AE Fracture Mapping

The developments of high temperature well logging tools initiated by Sunshine Program were resulted in commercialization of PTF combination tool and PTFD memory tool. "The permeable fracture evaluation by stoneley wave" and "the directional induction method" initiated by discovery of fractured reservoir were realized through the research collaboration with the service company. The AE fracture mapping technology and related simulator D/SC and SHIFT initiated by HDR project are still evolving with the expansion of JAPEX activities.

Introduction

JAPEX Research Center have been conducted technology developments related to well logging and reservoir characterization. In the memorial year of 80 years since the first well log in JAPAN, some development stories of following technologies are summarized.

  • High Temperature Well Logging

  • Permeable Fracture Evaluation by Stoneley Wave

  • Directional Induction Method

  • AE Fracture Mapping

The table 1 shows historical overview on developments of these four technologies since 1970s, and also shows the projects related to these technology developments.
