ABSTRACT

The PDK-100 is a new pulsed neutron logging system designed to measure Sigma (), the macroscopic thermal neutron capture cross section. In addition to determining, the system provides logging curves which are a measure of formation porosity and which furnish information concerning borehole conditions. This paper reviews the principles of operation of the PDK-100, and presents examples which illustrate the utility of the logging system. In addition, the progress of investigations into new parameters which can be derived with pulsed neutron logging data will be reported.
