ABSTRACT

In order to make a correct evaluation of Electric Logs in shaly sand formations, it is necessary to take into account the quantity and type of reaction due to the shale content of the formation. A quantitative method to determine the reaction and type of shale based on the capacity of the cationic interchange has allowed to make a correction to the formation factor in shaly sands. A correction to the sand formation factor in the Chicontepec Formation was done, using the above mentioned technique at the I. M. P., Formation Evaluation Lab. The results obtained, such as the case of well Tajin No. 631, substantially modify the porosity values in comparison to those results obtained through shaly correction, from petrophysical analysis or by log analysis formulas.
