ABSTRACT
Methods of determining permeability from well logs are reviewed. A case history is presented showing how an optimum empirical relationship to predict permeability can be developed for a particular formation and area. Data is from a carbonate reservoir of Lower Cretaceous age in Shaybah field, Saudi Arabia. The optimum permeability (K) prediction relationship for Shaybah field includes a term for capillary pressure (Pc) in addition to water saturation (Sw) and porosity (phi). K = (57 * phi^0.86) / (Sw^1.26 * Pc^0.89)Use of this equation is not restricted to intervals of "irreducible" water saturation.
