ABSTRACT

Log data have been used for several years in an attempt to solve the basic fracture gradient equation proposed by Hubbert and Willis. These data are applied empirically, and some methods give good results in certain areas. This paper discusses the use of a measured At shear to eliminate the uncertainties in the value of Poisson's ratio and to improve the reliability of the results. Field examples are shown, and a method of considering prevailing tectonic stress is discussed.
