ABSTRACT

The speed of analysis and the quality of the results are uppermost in the minds of most well log analysts, especially when expensive rig standby time is involved. An interactive system has been developed and implemented that is both fast and sure in the hands of the experienced log analyst. It employs a cathode ray tube computer terminal, an electronic digitizing tablet and the necessary ancillary equipment. The system contains the various procedures needed for log analysis. The procedures can be divided into five categories;namely, initiation of the system, digitization of logs, adjustments of depth and log readings, computations, and display of the results. The system is extremely flexible. Certain parts of the standard desk calculation and hand plotting techniques are tedious; whereas, batch processing computer methods often involve long turnaround time if the log analyst requires a number of iterations to obtain satisfactory and high quality results. Experience with the interactive system has demonstrated that, in a reasonable time, it is faster and provides higher quality results than either of the above methods.
