ABSTRACT

The influence and correction of the "skin-effect" on the Induction tool is briefly reviewed. The single radial geometric factor curve commonly used to describe the radial response of the induction is shown to be an over-simplification. The physical principle of the radial response of the induction tool is described in terms of pseudo-geometrical factors which vary with all values of Rxo and Rt as well as di. These show the "depth of investigation" to be always less than suggested by the classical curve. Interpretation charts have been constructed from these pseudo-geometrical factors. Laterolog and Induction tools are complementary in the sense that they are less influenced by invasion at opposite ends of the Rxo/Rt range. Theoretical and practical criteria are described which assist in the selection of the more accurate of the two tools in various conditions.
