PDO's Khulud unconventional gas project is progressing from the Appraisal phase to the Pilot phase. This maturation of unconventional gas resources in PDO is resulting in revolutionary changes to completion designs as well as fracturing operational optimization. Safety and economic challenges to reduce operational manpower exposure, reduce cost and increase production have resulted in considerable advancement in well and operational design including:

  • Elimination of Sub-Surface Safety Valve use on low initial rate and near liquid loading wells.

  • Changes to velocity string designs including wellhead hang-off (enabled by SSSV elimination); designs for scale inhibitor injection and salt removal circulations as well as contingency for future plunger lift applications.

  • Horizontal well designs including both cased and perforated and open hole designs are being implemented.
