Abstract
In today's oil and gas industry, successful well abandonment is becoming increasingly more important, particularly in subsea wells. Proper abandonment of a well the first time not only saves the operator time and money, it also ensures that our environment is not negatively impacted. To accomplish this, the wells must have gas tight seals placed in them that that will maintain their integrity long after the well has been abandoned. A new way to create these gas tight seals is to combine the unique properties of bismuth with the heat capacity of thermite.
