This paper presents the results of a 3-D, 3-P reservoir simulation study of waterflood infill drilling in a study area of the Johnson J.L. "AB" unit, located in Ector county, West Texas. The primary objective was to evaluate the waterflood infill drilling performance in the study area. This was accomplished by simulating the waterflood infill drilling performance followed by simulation of an alternative infill scheme or targeted infill drilling, utilizing a detailed reservoir characterization model. An economic evaluation was carried out for both the actual and targeted infilling schemes. The targeted infill drilling scheme resulted in higher recovery and better economic returns as compared to the actual infill drilling scheme. The major inference of this study was that the optimal infill drilling pattern need not necessarily be a regular pattern.
