In the Billings Nose area, the Bakken formation is a shale and silty carbonate sequence, capable of producing oil in association with adjacent beds when naturally fractured, Oil/surfactant breakdown and gelled oil fracture treatments have been commonly utilized to stimulate these zones. The best fracturing results have been attained with use of small quantities of fluid loss additives and high concentrations of proppant. However, pre-frac acidization, in association with a selective perforating method, may improve completion efficiency.
