The popularity of Laptop computers has dramatically increased because of their portability, low cost and increasing competitiveness with Workstations and mini-computers’ performance. As a result, many organizations are beginning to migrate their engineering applications to Laptop Computers. In 1994 Schlumberger Dowell started to migrate the full suite of mini-computer based CADE (Computer Aided Design and Evaluation) applications to Laptop computers. This paper chronicles the issues faced and resolved during the successful migration of the software.
