ABSTRACT
An outline of the requirements developed to select and implement an electronic document management system for a small business unit is presented. Emphasis is placed on the system installed and how that system is being used to provide a wide variety of data access services to managers, supervisors and staff. Integration of the system into a multi-platform, LAN environment with other more traditional database resources is also discussed.
Questions that will be addressed include:
What are some of the key components which should be considered when embarking on an investigation of document management systems and their potential use in the petroleum industry?
How do we provide data in a timely manner to the people who need that information to make decisions?
What are some of the key issues which arise when implementing a document management system?
