An outline of the requirements developed to select and implement an electronic document management system for a small business unit is presented. Emphasis is placed on the system installed and how that system is being used to provide a wide variety of data access services to managers, supervisors and staff. Integration of the system into a multi-platform, LAN environment with other more traditional database resources is also discussed.

Questions that will be addressed include:

  • What are some of the key components which should be considered when embarking on an investigation of document management systems and their potential use in the petroleum industry?
