The Public Petroleum Data Model (PPDM) is a non proprietary data model that is designed for the oil industry to store, retrieve and process computer information more efficiently through standardization. Last year's paper (SPE 26237) outlined the PPDM organization and modeling concepts. This paper discusses the past year's experience with the model in several areas: successes and problems encountered trying to implement the model, how various companies are using the model, to what extent integration is being achieved between exploratory and engineering information, and the progress achieved toward having one common model for the industry.
